Hong Kong to Send Rebates to 500,000 Taxpayers
HONG KONG, May 31 – An estimated 500,000 taxpayers in Hong Kong will receive rebate checks in September while 800,000 taxpayers may not need to pay taxes for the year, according to the Hong Kong Financial Secretary John Tsang.
He spoke during a radio show last Saturday adding that he was assured that recent relief measures will help citizens cope with the economic crisis.
“We will closely monitor the economy’s development. We expect the deterioration will slow down in the second half of the year. But if things worsen, we will consider carrying out more relief measures,” he said.
While Hong Kong’s relief plan may not cover all residents it will help SMEs to get loans and should allow businesses to keep employees. He added: “With the ones we have already announced, I am confident we will be able to help everyone get through the year.”
