Chinese Airlines Raise Fuel Surcharge Fees
Apr. 5 – Due to rising oil prices, Chinese airline companies have increased fuel surcharge fees for both domestic and international fights.
For domestic routes, the fuel surcharge fee has been increased by RMB10 per flight beginning April 5, 2012. After the adjustment, passengers are now subject to an RMB80 fuel surcharge for flights of less than 800 kilometers and RMB150 for longer routes, instead of the previous surcharges of RMB70 and RMB140. It is the second time that Chinese airlines have increased fuel surcharge fees for domestic flights since the beginning of March 2012.
For international routes, each airline has announced its own fuel surcharge increases:
- Hainan Airlines has increased fuel surcharges for some of its international flights from RMB1,000 to RMB1,150 since March 26, 2012
- China Eastern Airlines has adjusted the fuel surcharge fees for its Hong Kong-China route. Since April 1, 2012, the fuel surcharge has been increased from HK$230 to HK$245 for flights from Hong Kong to Mainland China, while the fuel surcharge for Mainland China-Hong Kong flights has been increased from RMB188 to RMB203.
- From April 14, Air China will raise fuel surcharges for flights from Mainland China to Europe (except Russia and Turkey) from RMB1,050 to RMB1,150. In the meantime, surcharges for flights to the United States will be increased from RMB800 to RMB1,000.
