China 2011 Demographics – Complimentary Report
Dec. 30 – China Briefing has just released a complimentary, 41-page report on the demographics and trends in China likely to affect foreign investors in 2011. As we move into the second decade of the new century, investors in China face a series of challenges. China itself is changing, with certain industries and their associated investments being forced to find new pastures as China’s increased labor costs and overheads start to kick in.
The nation is also undergoing yet more transformation as it seeks to reinvent itself as a consumer, rather than export-driven model, and continues its policy of raising the wealth of it citizens. Coupled with this, political changes are afoot as a new leadership is poised to take over in 2012, and the specter of North Korean instability again looms large. Debates are also rampant on the exact state of health of the Chinese economy, with many scenarios being predicted. In short, it promises to be a fascinating year, yet one that may not be without its troubles.
In this report we outline some of the concerns, and some of the developments that are likely to take place in China over the next year. We also look at future planning and development across the country and provide an in-depth study of city and provincial demographics – which cities have the fastest growth, which have the most disposable income, and so on. An executive summary concludes, with five corporate business “must do” items to protect, improve, and position foreign investments for the coming 12 months. Written by Chris Devonshire-Ellis, the principal of Dezan Shira & Associates, the report covers:
