Tianjin Port Overtakes Guangzhou in Cargo Throughput
Mar. 19 – Tianjin Port has emerged as a major global port as it overtook Guangzhou Port to become China’s third largest and the world’s fifth largest port.
It is the biggest artificial deep water port in the country and last year handled 356 million metric tons of cargo, surpassing average coastal harbor growth rates.
This year, Tianjin government forecasts that port capacity will increase to 400 million tons of cargo and 10 million standard twenty foot equivalent unit containers. In addition, RMB13 billion has also been allotted to expand the port’s infrastructure with the construction of thirty 10 thousand-ton crude oil wharves.
