P&G to Build Largest Asia Pacific Manufacturing Hub in Tianjin
TIANJIN, Jul. 28 – Procter & Gamble is slated to complete its biggest manufacturing base in the Asia Pacific region in China’s northern city of Tianjin at a cost of US$248 million.
The plant will be located in the city’s southwest district of Xiqing. Currently, the company has committed RMB198 million for the first phase of the project. When it is completed, the Xiqing project will employ about 800 people and will have a total factory area of 500,000 square meters with the capacity to accommodate 13 production lines.
Another RMB50 million will be used for the second phase of the project. A senior manager of P&G China’s external affairs department, Zhang Qunxiang, told media that P&G plans to develop its investment project in Tianjin’s Xiqing into its largest manufacturing base in Asia Pacific, and possibly the world, with an annual production capacity of 100 million cases.
The city of Tianjin is to be found along the Hai He River in North China. Tianjin is the sixth biggest city in the country in terms of population with its manufacturing industry accounting for as much as 60 percent of its economy.
