New Book on China’s Neighboring Countries Published
A 14 nation business overview of who China is influencing and who is influencing China in the new emerging Asia
Oct. 30 – China Briefing has just published “China’s Neighbors,” an 84 page full color volume including photos and maps, detailing China’s relations with all fourteen of its neighbor countries. Included are the countries of Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Vietnam. The book details the demographics of each country, their primary industries, trade with China and internationally, with researched articles on political and commercial development and likely bilateral trade progress. It also details all border crossings and transport links between each respective nation and China.
“China’s Neighbors” is priced at US$25 plus p&p and can be ordered from the China Briefing Bookstore.
The book, which has been a year in the making, is a unique introduction to the effect the emerging giant of China is having on all of its neighboring economies. In all cases, Chinese exports have increased dramatically, and in most areas (the exceptions being Afghanistan, Myanmar and North Korea) considerable effort is being put into infrastructure development to better facilitate cross border trade in both directions. Telling are the articles on Vietnam, and the future impact of the ASEAN Free Trade Zone on developing links between Hanoi, Kunming and Nanning, while border trade with Kazakhstan is booming, and trade with Pakistan may involve the development of Western rail links from Xinjiang leading directly to Islamabad. For Russia, the border town of Manzhouli is already China’s largest single land crossing; a staggering 68 percent of all Eastern European and Russian trade is conducted through this town. With all fourteen of China’s neighbors included, there will be something for everyone in this fascinating and currently unique study.
