Solar power

Nanjing-based photovoltaic products maker ET Solar Group Corp said it had entered into a sales agreement with German USE. ET Solar will deliver 13 MW of solar modules to the German company between January and November 2009.

Chinese photovoltaic cells and modules maker Suntech Power Holdings Co. Ltd. said it had reduced its workforce by 10 percent during the fourth quarter of 2008. The company postponed its 2009 plans to expand its capacity by 40 percent and to hire 2,000 people. It also reaffirmed its goal of lowering its solar power cost to RMB1 per kilowatt hour. The company’s CEO Shi Zhenrong said that Suntech will try to achieve that by accelerating the commercialization of its Pluto technology.

Air transport

Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China said that its new aircraft, ARJ21, has successfully made its maiden flight. Shipments are expected to commence by the end of the year.

China has begun using dogs to search for drugs on aircraft. The animals were put into service at Beijing’s Capital International Airport Terminal 3.

As of January 15, China will stop applying jet fuel surcharges on all of its domestic passenger flights.
